"Are you talking to me? Sorry I was not listening! Could you repeat what you said please?", these have been my first words at my hair dresser saloon.
This would not be anything special, but it is. This situation happened to occur, a day after I came back home from Canada. I was back in Germany, but my brain was not quite ready to accept this fact.
While my long lonely flight back home, I reflected about my year. The thought of "hey why so upset? You are flying home. Is…

It has been a great year here in Canada. It is unbelievable to think about any departure soon!
Through my stay I learned more about myself, as for example what is important to me or how I react in specific situations!
I also hope that I was able to show others my world perspective and how odd some things in Canada but also in Germany are.
It is hard to believe that I made so good friends, and a second family. It… Continue

"Why did I come to Canada? I miss my friends and Family, the lifestyle, I just don't want to be here"
Don't worry everybody has some moments to be upset, a feeling of being alone, and everything is just not the way you expected it!
Try not to be upset, enjoy your stay and the new experiences to get. Your friends and family. Take some paper out and write your frusturating on it, or what about a…

" Hi I am your Hostmom", said the email in my account... I called my dad "aaaaaaaaaaaaah I think my hostmom just wrote me, is that true, should I read it?"
... That day I met my hostfamily for the first time in my life...well via email! I was so happy, excited, but in a certain way I got scared.
This feelings are totally common and you don't have to wonder about it.
I wanted to talk to them, so… Continue

It was Saturday the 22th of August... The day before my "Canada experience" would begin. It was time to pack my luggage...
Before hand I made my thoughts what is necessary to bring and what isn't.
Packing my stuff... seeing my closet empty... seeing my parents staying behind me... wondering if I am really serious to go... finally you understand which step you are going to take. What kind of risks are involved. You leave a bit… Continue

Well hello again – welcome to another monthly newsletter; the sun is shining and the temperature is in the high single digits; oh and there is no snow on the ground
(yippee!) – I don’t know about you but I can almost taste Spring. I sincerely hope that the weather in
your area is looking as promising as it is here – it seems that as soon as the
sun comes out – so do the people.
I was walking…

When did I make the decision to go to Canada and why?
My teacher came one day to school with some flyers for an information day in a school in Frankfurt. There had been 20 Organisations ish... how should I find the right one and do I want to go? What issues could a year abroad have?
Then this one stand made the difference, I had such a nice talk and I made my decision. I wanted to gain as much… Continue

I was in the middle of the plane this time and couldn't see much, but as we were landing, I could see the ocean and mountains. It was beautiful.
The colours here are awesome. Everything is so green and the flowers explode with colour.
Got in around 6:20 a.m. It's really hot with a nice cool breeze. All the windows are open in the house and I can feel the breeze on me as I type.
Dale and Garry are really nice.
I unpacked today. Garry has been at the…

One of my best qualities is I'm decisive. One of my worst qualities is, well, I'm decisive.
Today, it's a problem.
Last January, my 16 year-old filled out an application for a one year exchange in New Zealand. "Yes, absolutely, wonderful, genius!" I gushed in an instant.
Her decision may have been inspired by my unreasonable traveling addiction. You see, I would spend my last dollar showing my kids the world. Actually, now that I think about it, I…

Yesterday at school did the leadership class the event to "pie a teacher". The money we got is going to Haiti to support them with the nutrition, medication, and everything they need. Except that we raised the money for a serious reason, was the event so mich fun.
Some teachers got lucky that the student was not able to pie into the face, but others were so good.
Something like that would never happen in Germany, or not in my school at least. I relize that canadian schools are…

I am not sure about this, because if you think about it a light saber is made of plasma and in "Pre-Crisis Superman" Superman has flown through the heart of a star without being harmed. Therefore, he is immune to plasma, and we all know plasma is basically the form of matter which stars are made of. Now if we want to get technical the "Force Of Impact" could harm superman but only red lightsabers contain this effect cause if we have learned anything from the Superman and the star wars comic is…

Traveling is one of the most important things in my life at the moment. Without being curious about everything, and in particular in other cultures, I would not be where I am - in Canada.
Currently, I am an exchange student from Germany, and I am attending a Canadian High school. I took this decision, to leave my country, family, friends, habits… for 10 month, when I was 13 years old.
I want to be more involved in traveling, see the world with different eyes, and explore…

Shecana International has changed my life!
When I first started working in this student exchange industry, I expected that I would enjoy meeting students from around the world, and I certainly have. I did not expect to learn so much about Canada by seeing my country through the eyes of people from different cultures. As a Canadian I took many things for granted, like how friendly we are, how for example it is normal for a stranger at your school to smile and speak to you. How…

Well.. I'm new here. As you may have gathered by reading a bit on my page, my name is Tyler. I'm a 21 year old Canadian citizen, born and raised here. British Columbia to be specific. I found out about Shecana from a friend of mine, who found out about it through Facebook. And I've wanted to travel, do whatever, have some fun for a quite some time. I've felt quite trapped by my hometown, and by my life and even reputations and preconceptions. I want to get out there, meet new people, experience…
